    Update: one week after this match, the same players met again in the semifinals of a WTT tournament (Feeder Muscat). To begin the match they played two rallies that were even longer than the one in this video. As a result, the expedite system was introduced at 1-1 in the first game.

      It didn't matter in the end because the other Chinese player (Fan Zhendong) won gold in men's singles. China took all the gold medals in table tennis.

    I feel bad for WCQ. For all those who does not understand this, you have not played TT long enough. To use a backup racket, it takes a while to get the feeling of in rubbers and blade. From a professional level, it's a big deal which puts you at a disadvantage to your opponent.

    End long story short and not blame others. The player himself should have spare paddle especially in competition. Prof. Badminton players and tennis player usually carries with them more than 2 rackets as spare for competition. Just his luck to that only paddle.

      No, the same goes for every top table tennis players. They change rubbers frequently to always play with the quality of a fresh sheet, but they always use the same individual blade + adjusted high quality rubbers (= national grade for China). Their blade is unique because the model is modified to suit them perfectly. Even generic blades are slightly different from one to another in a same brand model. The older a blade is, the better. So breaking your blade is very detrimental at that level.

      I think most people would feel much much happier about winning an Olympic gold medal than feel mad about a racquet that he has several identical spares of. In fact, I find his anger somewhat suspicious. Yeah it broke but he’s a sponsored player with several backups with the same blade, rubbers, etc. Or was this paddle special ? Was it boosted?
